Congressional Investigations

As we have learned not all powers that Congress possesses are not clearly stated in the Constitution but have grown over time out of necessity and are ruled "necessary and proper" for the effective management of government. Foremost of these powers, are the powers of oversight and investigation. The acts render by government officials and agencies can render suspicion due to illegal acts, scandal, immoral conduct, and threats to national security. Your objective is to explore some of our nations most high profiled investigations and find out what happened, who was involved, why is it a big deal to begin with? What were the consequences upon the nation because of the investigation.

You need to provide one initial post and comment at least once to one of your peers. Choose one of the investigations below.

  1. Most recently with the three killings at our embassy in the middle east the blame was quickly put on a youtube video instead of it's actual cause in a terrorist attack. The creator of the video was actually arrested to make it look more real, and Hilary Clinton actually steered away from the question for sometime. Until she finally told the truth about the matter and said, "what's the big deal". The American people where lied to, but still I have to wonder what sensible American would actually believe an organized attack on our embassy would be the result of some youtube video? I think that the truth was hidden from us because of the upcoming election and Congress and the President didn't want anyone to be panicking. The nation probably feels like they where lied to about the matter but I feel people should have known that the youtube thing was a lie. I would also have to say that the Government is really bad at covering up their tracks and when they are questioned they crack very quickly. Silly silly government tricks are for kids.

  2. The attacks on Benghazi happened on September 11, 2012. A bunch of riots broke out, and a U.S. ambassador and two marines were killed. The rioters claimed that the riots were caused by a youtube video, but if you are smart then you know that is not true. Heritage.org states that we are not getting answers from the government, and they are correct. The government didn't want us to see it as a terrorist attack for some reason. The reason we may never know, but we do know for sure that it was in fact an attack.

  3. Ex-CIA director David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell, author of his biography were having an affair after he had retired from his position in mid-2011. Investigation into the affair had started as early as September, and some investigations have went into whether or not the emails showed a threat to the national security of our nation. Petraeus' resignation left people with questions about what really happened to the four Americans who were killed, so the importance is that he left office or whatever with valuable information about the events surrounding Libya.

  4. Dealing with the bengzhai attack, our country is wondering why we were attacked, and how we can prevent ourselves from being attacked like this again. Embassy securities are being questioned to figure if the security levels are up to par since this event was allowed. Our country is also. Saying that we need to educate our people on what happened (four of our members were killed at the embassy) and we need to make sure that it never happens again.
